We are planning not to plan too much for Asia. Africa is going to be pretty much organised but we will be a bit more free in SE Asia. I think we are just going to fly in and out of Bangkok with our RTW flight and travel around either overland or with internal flights. Air Asia aparently is a dirt cheap budget airline like easyjet etc… This should make our RTW ticket that much cheaper… hopefully. will know in a few weeks.

Wow, getting very excited!
Since our change of plan, we have been planning what to do while in Africa. We are particularly keen on the idea of doing one of these organised overland tours. There seem to be quite a few different companies doing much the same thing. It is going to cost us a few quid more than doing it by ourself, but it will be alot easier to fit everything in and also takes much of the stress out of things.
Basically we think we are going to use one of these companies and do a six or seven week trip that goes from Nairobi all the way down to Cape Town. With varying differences we should cover:
- Serengeti
- Ngorongoro crater
- Tanzanian coast and Zanzibar
- Lake Malawi
- Lake Kariba
- Victoria Falls
- Animals of all shapes and sizes
It looks like it is going to cost a little over £1000 for the whole trip. That’s food travel and accommodation but a number of the excursions will be extra. Such as hot air balooning over the serengeti!!!!
The trips just look fantastic. I think it will be a trip of a lifetime and it will only be the first leg or our whole RTW.
Don’t think we will do any more when we are in Africa – I guess we will just be so blown away from that whole trip that we will be happy to sit on a beach in Cape Town for two weeks before flying off the see Karen in Qatar.

Where do we want to go? – part 3
January 15, 2007 · Leave a Comment
I knew this would happen. I fully expect more changes when we get round to booking the flights but hopefully they will only be minor.
Everywhere on our list is pretty much tropical so it doesn’t relly matter too much when we go where – you can’t hit all the good season so you just make the most whith what you’ve got.
That is, apart from New Zealand; they have proper seasons – winter and everything!!!! and we don’t really want to be there for the winter. I am sure NZ would be lovely in the winter but it gets cold and rains alot. Not really ideal when you plan to spend much of the time in a campervan.
I couldn’t work out a sensible route that got us to NZ for the spring/summer that followed anything like a sensible path and we didn’t want to delay our trip – it’s hard enough having to wait this bloody long anyway and we still hope to do some skiing afterwards so can’t get back too late in the season.
Instead, we have decided to cut out South America and go to Africa instead. The obvious solution and it is hardly limiting our trip because we wanted to both originally and decided to cut out one because we didn’t want to rush and miss things out.
Anyway, choosing Africa has given us (particularly me) a new lease of excitement. Feet getting itchier by the day!!!! Not too sure about travelling independently around Africa so we ill probably do one of the overland trips that last 3-6 weeks – let somebody else do the driving/planning/scaring-big-animals-away-with-a-gun etc.
Still got a year to go – how excited am i going to be this time next year?
